EATERY:
The Original Yonah Schimmel Knishery
LOCATION:
137 East Houston St. (Eldridge-Forsyth Sts.), New York
REVIEWS:
With a different grip, you could throw it like a softball, but it's better in your belly, especially before a long night on the Lower East Side. A knish is like a mashed, baked potato whose skin has been replaced by dough; Yonah Schimmel's (about $3 each) come in plain potato as well as spinach (shown here), mushroom, kasha, sweet potato, cabbage, and a bunch of sweet cheese types that I've never tried. Open till 11:00 Friday and Saturday.
