REVIEWS:
I’ve always wonder whatever happened to all my favorite character from such movies as Midnight Cowboy to Taxi Driver, no more are the days of the badAsses. I long for those characters (sigh), if those characters where still alive and kicking today I bet they would hang out at Smith’s Bar and Restaurant. I can imagine a fatass version of Robert Dinero hunched over drinking a Key Stone light and the midnight cowboy fucked up as hell making sloppy Joe with some tranny way too old be in the game. Smith’s Bar and Restaurant is Located 701 Eighth Ave, at 44th St, west side of Time Square. I was just there last week around 11 am looking for some eats and stagger into Smith’s. It had just turned 11 am and already I see the bar full of drunks and sports fans hovering over the bar. I sat myself at the sticky & questionable table and waited for my server to show up. The waiter was a very thin, lanky pale, Jon Voight lookalike, he looked like his been around.
RANTS & RAVES:
I ordered the 2 eggs, beacon, and potatoes ($5.99) came with coffee and toast, the food is what ever, but if your fucked up who the fuck cares - people do not come for the food. Most regulars would rather spend their money on the boozes which I should have done. While eating the crappy food, wishing I was drinking it instead, I zoned out all of Time Square and tried to imagine what it might have been if it wasn’t for Giuliani and his cronies. One can only dream Tip: On this side of town one can still hop into strip joint or exotic gift shop at all hours – even 10 in the morning. Tip: Smiths adds gratuity, I suspect most drunks forget to tip
