REVIEWS:
Recently selected by AOL-City Guide as the city’s best dive bar, Rudy’s has been serving drinks – legally – for 75 years. Longer if you include the Prohibition Era. That’s bar owner Jack (on the left) with manager Danny D proudly holding up their award as 2007 Best Dive Bar. So what makes a classic Dive Bar? Money. Moola. The Long Green. Spondulicks. What you will notice at Rudy’s is that the prices are so low that most people don’t believe it. PBR pitchers for $7.50, Foster pints for $3, McSorely’s even cheaper than at McSorley’s! They have equally low prices on a whole list of domestic and imported suds. And get this: 8AM to 5PM all booze is just $4. Martinis, Jack and Ginger, shots, Long Island Iced Tea, you name it, from 8AM to 5PM it costs just $4! No wonder manager Danny D says, “Rudy’s won’t match neighborhood Happy Hours. We refuse to raise our prices!” After 5PM, drinks don’t cost very much more. So how do you top that? Free Hot Dogs! 100% all-beef quality Hot Dogs with mustard, ketchup, both or plain are yours for the asking when you drink here. They move thousands of them. In fact they have a bar back just for the dogs. Whenever I go there – and I’ve been going there almost 30 years – at least five people will ask if the dogs are really free. That means they are at Rudy’s for the first time. The dogs really draw ‘em in! And it is a swell bar to boot. Soon the sound system will get a 5 figure overhaul, making a Hell’s Kitchen Landmark even better. And when you go, check out the huge backyard. For drink prices, friendly service, FREE FOOD and the great conversation, I don’t think Rudy’s can be beat. Go to 44th and 9th and look for the famous Pig!
