REVIEWS:
I went to La Taza De Oro on the recommendation by a frequent cheapAss eater Richard Chang. Located on 96 8th Avenue between 14th St & 15th St, is cute little diner full of Spanish speaking eaters from the neighborhood. I really love the whole atmosphere with the 9-5ers for a little happy hour it gets really lively and packed. Unfortunately there is no beer and BYOB. I was really sadden by it because after work I could have used some nice cold beer to down with my grub, however they have Malta which is a type of soft drink. It is a carbonated malt beverage, meaning it is brewed from barley, hops, yeast, and water much like beer but non-alcoholic. The drink went well with our meals, I ordered the octopus salad with side of fried plantain, our guest of honor got the stew beef with side of black beans and rice and Kenneth got this crazy juicy oily pork chops also with black beans and rice. The meats, bean and rice were great just the right amount of saltiness. The beef so tender it melted in my mouth but comes in a small portion. The pork chops (come in 2 pieces) were not melt in your mouth but still tender enough to cut a piece with a spoon. Octopus salad however was a big disappointment, it was very bland, with a terrible texture, it wasn’t chewy but it wasn’t tender either. Definitely if your looking for a good octopus salad go to Margon it has the best octopus salad ( http://www.cheapassfood.com/eats/show/117 ). Still I really enjoyed La Taza De Oro, very friendly home like ambiance with great food and great crowd.
RANTS & RAVES:
The food are great but on the greasy side. Not good if you are on a diet. Too bad no alcohol or BYOB.
