REVIEWS:
Bon Bon Chicken located on 98 Chambers is an addictively spicy chicken joint with a real kick. I was craving some good fried chicken wings last night, so I wondered over to Civic Center. Got my self an order of the small 8 piece wings spicy ($6.95), which comes with rice or buns, I opted for the rice. WOW wee this is some fiery chicken that will knock anyone’s socks off, at first I didn’t realize how hot the wings were but after couple more bits it was really intense. The flavor was a bit of habnaro (just a guess) with a hint of soy and a trace of sweetness, after second and third wing I really couldn’t taste much else, it was almost numbing. Yet I went for my fourth, it’s one of those things that make you want more and more as you eat- taking pleasure in all the pain. One can't compare this to American style fried chicken, its a completely different, the chicken is lighter, more savory, and oh so crispy. Not like the soggy greasy Western standard of deep fried chicken, doesn’t feel heavy after a meal.
RANTS & RAVES:
I guess Bon Bon would be consider fusion, more like Korean to me but on their website does not allude to it. Also they recently expanded their menu, now available are shrimp and salmon.
