I must admit that I am somewhat of a caffeine snob, but I think comes with the territory of being a native San Franciscan. I don’t know what it is about this city maybe it’s the fog making me want some sort of comfort with a nice cup of hot brew or maybe it’s the high I get while ingesting Philz Coffee. Philz Coffee is known as “the” best coffee in the city, maybe in the whole nation – dare I say it? This non descript locations started out as a corner deli/liquor store that is now a full-fledged café serving mostly coffee and handful of muffins and snacks. If you’re a new comer the first thing you’ll notice is the staff, all so accommodating and friendly never will rush anybody, which can be a problem if your in a hurry, but if your going to Philz it is worth the wait. After ordering solo cup of joe, the barista will grind the whole beans, pour it into a individual coffee maker, pouring piping hot water into it, if you’re a caffeine freak they can run the coffee couple of times, but one time is enough to make me get the jitterbugs. Once the water has filtered down then heavy cream is shaken and added with sugar and a sprig of mint then in the last and final step the coffee will get flipped so the mints aroma incorporates into the magical elixir. The flavor is full body with very dark roast which then your palate is hit with nuttiness of the cream and finishing off with hints of mint. With every single sip you take your taste buds is brightened. A true quintessential San Francisco experience that all coffee lovers will love, what’s not to love, personalized brewed coffee with, as Phil would says “love and care”.
