REVIEWS:
Transporting a birthday cake can be tricky business in Manhattan, but somebody’s got to do it. I went to Koryondnag to get a cake for Kenneth’s birthday, let just say I’ll be discreet and say he is thirty something years young as you oldies like to put. HE HE I went to one of my favorite pastry shops in Midtown- Koryodang Inc located on 31 W 32nd St between 5th Ave & Broadway. I love this place you can find all things sweet, ranging from $1 homemade icicles, Korean pan, cakes, to shaved ice (mmmm my favorite, red bean). So I picked out a beautiful green tea 2-layered cake for a whopping $25, decorated with some strawberries, coco chips and white chocolate. I couldn’t wait to dig in but had to wait for the birthday boy, let along make it back safely to Chinatown from Midtown. The staff was very understanding of my subway ride dilemma and insured me that the cake would make through the F train. Once my delight was wrapped up in a heavy-duty cardboard box I hit the train. I had no problem through out the whole trip, beside the usual halts and skids the cake made it all the way home, the added bounce was the handy handle that comes fully designed with the box (thank you Industrial Design ppl, I guess some of you people come in handy.) Now for the cake… OMG was it good, Kenneth does not have a sweet tooth and he loved it, even had it for lunch the next day. The cake was moist with strong earth green tea flavor and the frosting was mildly sweet with whipped heavy cream, thinly wrapped around the cake. I think the whole cake was about 12” in diameters and about 6-7” deep that last us for about 3 days for 2 people.
RANTS & RAVES:
Got to try the one dollar homemade popsicles, coffee is my favorite, and they also have Korean style pastries that I think beats the Chinese pastries I love the deep fried donut looking one cover in sugar some of those have veggies in them that is to die for. Most Pastries go for 1-2 buck not much more than that.
