REVIEWS:
Young was craving Korean Jjajangmyun- a Chinese/ Korean noodle dish with black bean sauce and onion. And you know if she didn’t eat she will get super cranky so we do a little search online and find this place. Hyo Dong Gak in K-Town is a traditional Korean-Chinese restaurant, some says it is the only one. Due to the geographical proximity, the menu is more on the Northern Chinese side. Young got the plain Jjajangmyun $5.95 (noodle with brown sauce). She says its good but not the greatest. (the greatest being her Mom’s of course) But the price is cheap! I got the Noodles with Hot Seafood Soup ($7.95). The bowl is huge and the broth is bright red. It is not that spicy and the broth is very delicious- all the seafood flavors are all condensed in the broth. Not to mention the thick egg noodles are very good too. Yum! In the bowl there are Sea Cucumber, Black Mushroom, Shrimp, Baby Corn, Spinach, Squid, Sliced Cucumber and Thin Slices of Conch. The only flaw is one can tell the shrimp and conch are frozen stuff thus doesn’t have that much flavor. On top of these we also got a Not-Cheap-Ass GanPanJi- Chinese literally translated to “Dry Cooked Chicken” ($11.95). The plate is quite big and we expected the deep fried chicken stirred fry in the sweet and tangy garlic and red pepper sauce. However it is quite a disappointment. The chicken is all drenched in the orange sauce that lost its crunchiness. Usually they use dark meat but they use white meat instead that contains much less flavor. Bummer!
RANTS & RAVES:
For BanChan they only give you Kimchi, pickled Daikon, Onion and Black Bean sauce. Beer as always, is expensive in Korean restaurant. $4 for a bottle of OB (Korean Beer).
