REVIEWS:
I’m dancing in my pants this pizza is so good, last time I was ranting about the pizzerias popping up in my hood Chinatown, and this time it’s good. So good it makes me want to do the hustle! Baby O located 225 Park Row (@ Worth Street/ Chatham Square) nestled away b/t Chinatown, City Hall and financial district is a gem of place for all those around the hood looking for some good home cook Italian. They’ve been open now for only 2 weeks and already all the old school Italian moms and pops are making this place a regular shot for their Friday and Saturday nights. “Baby” the owner is an accommodating and generous fellow that has welcomed Chinese, Italians and pizza lovers alike to his causal restaurant. For a first time restaurateur he makes a mean pie, but not to take all the credit, he praise to his great-grandmother for his 100 years old family recipe. Their specialty the grandma slice is a thick and bouncy pie with plum tomatoes sauce fresh mozzarella cheese and fresh basil. I was lucky enough to get a taste of it while waiting for my pie to take home, and I have to say it was yummy for $2 you get a piping hot slice with all the love a grandmother can ever give you. It was so hot I had to wait couple of minutes before taking my second bite, the cheese was moist with a nice milky flavor and the plump tomatoes with basil were a perfect combination but most importantly the dough was the deal breaker for me, it was very flavorful with a hint of sweetness and yeastiness which I like and it was not chewy but more vivacious. Once I took my bad boy home, a Margherita (Plum Tomatoes, Fresh Mozzarella and Basil, $14 for a Large 8 slices pie) it was party time for Kenneth, the dog and I. You don’t know how long we have been waiting for a place like this to open around our area, we were hoping Mosco Pizza would have been but was sort of disappointing. 212-608 5888
RANTS & RAVES:
We love the logo- owner’s “Baby” own baby picture. The pizza dough is very good. For thin-crust lover this dough is not as thin as John’s or Patsy’s, it’s an in-between of New York style and California style, which we love! They have a custom build brick oven. The Fried Calamari $7 is HUGE! I am not kidding! Besides slices, they only offer one size for pizza- Large. Extra Toppings $2.50 each. Here are some of the prices: Large Grandma $16 Large White Pie (Mozzarella and Fresh Ricotta) $14 Large Meatball $14
