REVIEWS:
If you have been reading my posts you must have known that we eat a lot of Vietnamese Pho. Not only because it’s one of my favorite thing to eat but also my number one hung-over remedies. So here we are, at Pho Bang in Little Italy/ Chinatown cleaning my alcohol intoxicated stomach with fragrant broth. Young always complains that I order the same thing- the “Locomotive”- Combination Rice Noodles Beef Soup with Fresh Eye of Round, Brisket, Tendon and Omosa. (Extra Large $5.50/ Regular $4.50) But if you don’t try the same thing how can you correctly differentiate the taste of different restaurants? Young love the broth here because it is much beefier than the other places. The pho noodles tend to be a little starchy too, which contribute to the murkiness of the soup. They give you quite a bit of meat but if you want more, add $1.00 to get extra choice of meat of meatball. And of course we always got the Cha Gio Deep Fried Vietnamese Spring Roll (4 Rolls $3.95) as appetizer. Rather than Chinese spring roll paper Pho Bang use real Vietnamese rice paper wrapping for the skin which make the texture chewy and crunchy at the same time. We love the mouthfeel of it. Delicious! Young sticks to her regular too- the Bun Thit Heo Nuong Grilled Pork On Rice Vermicelli ($4.95). The pork is charred nicely with the sweet caramelized fish sauce marinate flavor. We just wish the bowl is bigger!
RANTS & RAVES:
Stick with the basics- Pho and Bun, you won’t go wrong! For house specials we only try the Canh Chua Ca Spicy & Sour Fish Soup- Soup Prepared W. Slices of Salmon Fish, Tomatoes, Okra, Bean Sprouts, Pineapple & Spices. It tastes very very good. Ask them if they have catfish instead of salmon, taste way better and traditional. Not to confuse this one on Mott with the Pho Bang on Allen and East Broadway, that one sucks ass.
