REVIEWS:
A good reliable place to buy a good roast chicken is not as easy as one may think. For some reason I rarely frequent Chick spots, oh I don’t know maybe b/c the quality of how the chickens raised in the States are poor, and very undesirable. As many of you may know, the way most chickens are raised here are mass-produced and taste awfully fowl (pun intended). However I recently found a good rotisserie around Upper East Side call East Side Poultry located on 1522 1st Ave, B/t 79th & 80th St. They have many sections of poultry ranging from chicken, Long Island ducklings, turkey, to Cornish hens. Their lunch specials are from 11-4pm and it is cheap! I had 1/2 roasted chicken with 2 sides for only $6.99. The options for toppings seems endless, I was feeling very Thanksgiving day friendly so I opted for the stuffing and green beans with 1/2 chicken. I took a bite of the stuffing first because it has been some time since I have eaten it, and it was great, I felt like I was having flashbacks to when I was a kid eating my first Thanksgiving day meal at my friends house. I remember her mom always served “stovetop” stuffing, and today was no different, it tasted a little mushy and bland but growing up in the States I think that’s the way it should be. The green beans where fresh and crisp to the bite and when I finally arrived to taking my first bite of the chicken it was nice. Warm, tender and very moist, and the skin (which is my favorite part) were rich in fat, salty and juicy. The breast is very moist and is quite a big chuck of meat too.
RANTS & RAVES:
- East Side Poultry gives you heaps of food for very affordable price also I like the fact that they try to use local poultry. Like the Long Island ducklings and they prepare all their food at the premises so you know it is going to be fresh. - The downside is take out only, but they have delivery.
