REVIEWS:
I used to watch the food network religiously but now that I have to pay rent in the big apple I hardly have the dough or the time to view any cable network show. So once I stubble upon A Salt & Battery I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they have been part of the Bobby Flay’s Throwdown in March of 2007. Being the winner of the Throwdown I had to find out how good their fish and chips were, I ordered the small cod ($5.25) the small chips ($3.25) to go with. The cod is the most popular so I had to try that, once I took my bite, I knew why this man was the winner, flaky large chunks of cod held in shape really well and the flavor was truly fresh and tasting of the sea. The batter was crispy light and golden complimenting the cod ever so slightly with yeasty creamy tang. The chips up to the standard of the fish, very English nice thick cuts sort of like a drunken fat man at a pub – short and stocky.
RANTS & RAVES:
The smalls here are quite large for $5.25 you get a huge fillet of cod, same goes for the chips. Also they have beer because they are English and nothing goes better, it is pretty affordable a bottle of creamy Boddingtons or Newcastle will set you back $4.75.
