REVIEWS:
Growing in Northern California my parents owned a Korean restaurant so I never had to worry about feeding my self. But now this cheapass has left the bird’s nest and is forced to fend for myself. So whenever I am craving Korean food I head to H- mart in midtown or sometimes to Queens to get all the necessities I need to get my fix of Korean food. Today I was around flushing to load up on my supplies and on my way out I noticed a small little shop with a menu on the wall, I never knew they offered hot meals so I thought I give it a try. I ordered Dolsot Bibimbap literally meaning stone pot rice, for those of you who are lucky to have eaten this treat its as good as it gets and only $8. But for those of you who have yet to try, this is what one can expect. The rice is cooked in the clay pot, which comes out all crispy and chewy, typically beef is added with some cooked root vegetables, in this case mine came with dykon, carrots, spinach, bean sprouts plus an egg cooked sunny side up. Traditionally Koreans mix it all up with a chile pepper paste call gochujang, but if you are not a fire-eater I would try to add little bit at a time. This is a great winter dish that always reminds me of home, I implore you to try it, you wont be disappointed.
RANTS & RAVES:
For $8 it came with a small soup, and some kim-chee, this definitely is a great cheapass deal, most restaurants in Manhattan/Queens can charge up to $14. The ambiance is whatever; some Mexican workers were hanging out eating some instant ramen when I was there. The menu is only in Korea, so if you don’t the language you have to ask for translation or just point and see what you get.
