REVIEWS:
A big sign outside proudly boasts “Absolutely No MSG”, then huge fonts on the first page of the menu states the same. OK, finally walk in and find out this new Cantonese style noodle joint has the most simple and natural broth that one cannot resist slurping the entire bowl of soup to the bottom. Young got their Homemade CuttleFish Ball w/ Flat Rice Noodle Soup ($4.75). Growing up in Hong Kong I have been trying to find good cuttlefish ball for a long time and this place got it quite close. The clear broth is very simple with a hint of Chinese Dried Scallop flavor. Richard got the Three Dumplings with Egg Noodle Soup ($5.95) that consists of Shrimp Wonton, Shrimp Dumplings and Black Egg Dumplings. Richard says the noodle is very fresh and the shrimp wonton is a bit spicy due to some dark red pepper power inside the wonton. I got fancy, ordered the chef special Devillish Ramen ($7.95). To my surprise it is totally Japanese, not a drop Cantonese influence. (Maybe a competition against Ajisen Ramen chain across the street?) In the not-so-spicy broth comes with great quality Japanese Ramen noodle, with toppings including fresh scallop, fresh fish slices, fake crab meat, seaweed, shrimp, fishball. One can tell the broth is the same base as Richard’s and Young’s and it seems they add the spicy Japanese Dashi powder to “enhance” the flavor. All you ramen connoisseurs should give this a try.
RANTS & RAVES:
This place won’t leave you thirsty with MSG after taste The decoration is very nice and clean, love the ceiling, hate the cheesy Kenny-G sound-alike “My Love Will Go On” they played.
